cabaltThis Game is the latest game from Adam Atomic, pretty basic and freakin cool! The look of the game is sweet and its not hard to pick up.  Just keep jumping when there’s obstacles and when there’s a gap.  Also you can’t memorize the map because its randomly generated.  Pretty Sweet if you ask me.  to check out more games from Adam Atomic go to his game site, http://flixel.org/

OK! This has nothing to do with indie games, but I had no clue where else to post this! For the few of you that might actually have the requirements GO APPLY TO THIS RIGHT NOW! Also… I might start my own blog on this where I just post links to some of gamasutra’s ontario job profiles.

While it says Toronto, this is for their Oakville team!

Augmented Reality

Okay i’m gonna touch base on alot of things in this subject but it wont all be about games.  The key to this is the potential that it could change the way we make games. I will basically just post alot of wicked videos with great ideas to spark your brains, and also send you guys some links as to how the development is going so far.  The whole thing is Open Source and we can grab this to try things out.  I mean there’s a hand full of us that do 3D, myself included.

Gotoandlearn.com

is a tutorial that pretty much shows you how to get started in the whole coding aspect of it.  This whole thing has so much potential for entertainment and i’m totally gonna try out this avenue.

My idea is more on the teaching side.  I’m gonna teach kids hot to make level designs with lego type toys.  with diff pieces they put oh the scene they can build the whole thing with all kinds of things.  What i love about it is that, i feel its important to keep kids in a very participatory situation so avoid the controllers because everyone else does that.

I hope this shows alot more on what the technology can do.   PEACE AND LUV!

Pretty damn sick!

BOXGAME!

August 11th, 2009 1 comment »

Ok. So it’s 1:30 am and I am very tired. Sounds like my last post. But I have to say, I’ve found a very enjoyable game to play posted on the independent game source.

http://www.sophiehoulden.com/games/boxgame/

It is a puzzle platformer with a very interesting twist. it all takes place on a box, and as you get to the edge the map turns with the box. Falling across multiple edges turns the direction you are falling and begins quite a bit of confusion. To complete a level just reach the door, some require a key. It’s very straight forward. The controls are the arrow keys left right for movement, up is jump and press down when you reach a door to finish. R resets a level if you get stuck. Have a go at it! Quite fun.

La-Mulana

July 24th, 2009 4 comments »

I warn you, this game is not for the weak of heart… It is, by all terms and purposes a frustratingly harsh game. But, for those of you who might be into that, well look no further. La-Mulana, is a platformer made with “modern” technology, however sporting that old atari look we all love. I mention that it’s “modern” side because, the controls are tight, and everything that causes you to get upset at least makes sense.

It’s basically describes as a “metroidvania.” Which is great, lots of stuff to collect and places to explore. However, one of the nice features about this is that many of the puzzles (most… almost all) are based on riddles. There are hints scattered throughout, both graphically and in text, that will lead to figuring out a riddle. Which is why I would reccomend bringing a pen and paper to keep track of some of the things you find.

I’ve read in some reviews that this game can take 100+ hours to finish. Which isn’t suprising considering how challenging many of the puzzles can be in it. The temple where most of the game takes place is made up of “zones” each one giving their own visual feel. The differences between the zones keep the game feeling fresh for all those hours that this game can take. Some locations even pose new challenges in controls, such as the ice zone, where most of the surfaces cause your character to slide.

Now… this is an old game. It’s been out for a few years now. And a few years ago, I had downloaded it and many other times in between. However I never got into it because I could never figure out how to get into the main dungeon, which is the first real puzzle to solve. Until recently when I downloaded it yet again after reading another great review of it.

So yes, I will be telling you how to get into the main dungeon, and how to save. But since I count both those as spoilers I will be posting them at the very end. You have been warned.

That is the website that translated the game, you can find a download link, along with the english patch that needs to be applied to the game. Unless you are exceptionally adept in reading Japanese. A nice little bonus. I’ve heard word that this game will be coming to Wii ware! When, I don’t remember. Will update you later.

The controls are

Left and right arrow keys: move left and right

Up arrow key: jump

Down arrow key: enter door/building, activate something, place weight

Space: Main weapon

M: sub weapon

F1: pause

F2-f3: inventory menues

There are other controlls too, these are just the basics needed to jump right into the game. If you want to read the full controlls there is a manual directory you unzipped the game to.

I apologize in advance for spelling/gramatical/whatever. It is late, and I didn’t feel like sleeping yet.

OK! Four spoilers I must tell you about… Because it is likely that you will find this game far more frustrating that it need be without them.

1) SAVING: In order to save, you will first need to purchase the green ROM. It looks like a game kart, and is sold for 10 gold in the house one streen to the left of where you behin. In order to save you will need to enter your kart inventory by pressing F3 and equipping the ROM. While the rom is equipped the Village Elder will ask you if you would like to save or not when you enter his hut.

2) Entering the temple: In order to enter the temple, you need to talk to the village elder, than climb the mountain to the right, killing as many enemies as you can in hopes they will drop a weight (cylander looking things). Keep killing, or opening jars (3 hits) until you find one. Half way up the mountain, you will come across a tiny red altar, about the size of a tile. Walk over it and press down. This is how you put a weight on something. Tada’ the entrance to the temple.

3) A few screens further up the mountain you will come across an area with enemies, where what looks like little chillis are falling from the sky. Kill all the enemies on this area and the chest will open. The item in this chest plays a sound whenever you activate something, such as solving a puzzle or activating a trap. I played for about 3 hours before I found this item. And well, it made me feel a lot less lost.

4) Don’t go too deep into the temple right off the bat! While you are perfectly capable of doing so, you will most likely reach a point where it is very unlikely you will be returning to town alive. However, there is an item in the first “zone.” That allows you to teleport back to town. I won’t tell you where it is, but it looks like a grail. Once you have it, press F2 to enter your inventory while there press zero. You will warp to town. Eventually you can unlock other locations to warp to (0-9 in the F2 menue).

Good luck!

Have some pixels in your face!

Hi guys i’ve created a blog for gaming and especially indie gaming purposes.  I’ve been crazy about what the indie gaming community has been spewing out and its very exciting.  I hope to design this site to its more suited theme, once i have everything in order.

And to celebrate this new blog which i hope people would love to join and contribute.  I will be posting my top games i’ve liked and top websites for indie games related.

TOP 5

-Cortex Command

Super complicated game and really fun, the look of the game is phenomenal.  The full game isn’t out but there’s a demo you could try.  They sell the first build but it isn’t the final product.  I think its kinda like pre-ordering the game but already having half of it.

-Aquaria

Really nice looking game I love its style

-The Unfinished Swan

Very interesting and its got a lot to play around with.

-Snapshot

Really neat idea and the style is so awesome because they took it from the baby mario game.  I think it was Yoshi’s island.

-Mode

An amazing artist and i think a coder also Adam Atomic made a series of games.  Check out his other games Flixel

My fave indie game sites

-The Indipendant Game Source

Sort of like the hub of all indie gaming community.

-Bytejacker

A webshow that talks about Indie Gaming.

-8bitrocket

Stuff with flash games and others.

Well that’s it for now i just really wanted to put out those links somehow and there, i’ve done it, now back to drawing.

Take care everyone! PnL!
